ADVANCING HEALTHCARE PRACTICE Small projects supported during 2007 Maintaining the Privacy and Dignity of Patients with Dementia Admitted to an NHS District General Hospital NHS Trust Project leader: Nikki Haak Location: Royal Surrey County Hospital NHS Trust Summary of initiative: The aim of the project is to maintain the privacy and dignity of patients with dementia who are cared for in an acute District General Hospital in Surrey. Through existing and planned observations of care, baseline standards for privacy and dignity will be established. To ensure an excellent standard of privacy and dignity care, it is anticipated that nursing awareness will need to be raised. This will be achieved through a normative re-education approach which will include workshops to explore the concepts of privacy and dignity; presentations of the evidence-base and findings from observations of care; staff discussion groups to identify issues and solutions and support through clinical supervision. Observations of care will be used to evaluate the impact of the project. For further information about this project please contact: nikkijhaak@btinternet.com |
