ADVANCING HEALTHCARE PRACTICE

Small Projects Programme - General Focus

Supporting Nurse Led Innovations that Improve Patient Care

(This programme is currently closed to applications)

FoNS believes that all patients should experience care that is high quality and patient-focused and whilst the responsibility for continuously improving the quality of care lies with all healthcare professionals, we recognise that implementing change and/or getting evidence into practice can be a complex process and that nurses and healthcare teams do not always have access to the resources, knowledge and skills that are needed for effective and sustainable change. The FoNS Small Projects Programmetherefore provides support and facilitation for clinically based nurses to enable them to lead innovative local projects that will develop nurses, nursing and healthcare practice to improve patient care in any healthcare setting across the UK.

Over a period of twelve to eighteen months, selected teams will work with the FoNS Practice Development Facilitators to help them to develop, implement and evaluate innovations that improve care. This could include:

  • Advice on developing an idea for improving an aspect of patient care into an effective project proposal/plan
  • Help to identify and make links with people who may be able to offer support locally
  • Access to practice development tools and resources
  • Facilitation in the workplace to enable the development of knowledge and skills in leading and facilitating sustainable changes in practice and improvements in care
  • Opportunities for networking and sharing
  • Encouragement to publish and disseminate

Funding of up to £2000 is also available for each project team.
