Activity and culture - the contribution to health and well being in later life
Project leaders
Josephine Tetley, Lecturer, University of Sheffield
Summary and Aims
This project aims to establish an activity and culture centre within a sheltered housing scheme and evaluate the impact of this upon the overall health and well being of the older residents. A needs analysis of leisure and social activities is being undertaken with the tennants of the sheltered scheme which explores what residents used to engage in, the activities they currently undertake and what they aspire to engage with both inside their home and in the community. The intention of this project is to match the findings of the needs analysis with local resources and offer a range of activities in response. To achieve this, the project team will work closely with community nurses and other statutory health and social care providers as well as with activity, culture and leisure provision in the city. The programme will be agreed with the residents and run for one year. Progress and outcomes will be evaluated adopting a pluralistic methodology, involving all stakeholders including the residents.
