Donna James

Surgical Matron

Hello my name is Donna and I am a Matron. I have been a nurse for 37 years and I’m extremely passionate about nursing and improving our NHS. I work clinically within Trauma & Orthopaedics and have responsibilities across three sites for multiple clinical areas and departments. Including Fracture clinic and plaster room on two sites, three wards at MMUH, a trauma team which covers three sites, 2 ACP’s-one Qualified working within frailty and one currently in training year 3 and a PDN.

As somebody who invests a lot of time and thought into pastoral support, holistic well-being and advocacy for patients. I’d like to inspire, develop, influence and implement new ways of thinking and working to improve staff holistic health and well-being. Whilst looking to improve person- centred cultures to improve patient care and experience.

A transparent, kind and caring culture makes working lifes for staff and hospital lifes for patients better. If all staff feel heard, valued and supported, patients get holistic quality and safe care to meet their needs with compassion, kindness, confidence and competence.

I’m hoping that the Person-centred Cultures Development programme will provide me with an opportunity to gain peer support. I am looking forward to becoming familiar with the new tools and learning opportunities open to myself. Both of these allowing me to think wider and create new developments and focus for growth within my teams and patient group too.
