Sophie Mann
Matron
My name is Sophie, I am the matron for the Central Delivery Suite and the Midwife Led Unit in Central Bristol. Between the two units there are around 4500 deliveries a year and we are the specialist unit for maternal and fetal cardiac patients as well as fetal surgical babies, meaning that many of our patients are high risk and require specialist care. This can pose a challenge when working towards delivering patient centred care and preferences, whilst recognising some of the complexities that come with their medical conditions.
I directly line manage a team of 14 Coordinating midwives, responsible for leading the clinical care provided to patients within the maternity unit. I am passionate about patient centred care and recognise the importance in creating an environment that has a positive team culture to enable this. I feel privileged to have the opportunity to attend this FoNs Person-Centred cultures programme, and for the learning that I will be able to share with my team and embed into practice. I feel confident that this will have a positive and direct impact on the patients using our service.
