Emergency Medicine Matron

My role as an Emergency Medicine Matron covers two areas, the Emergency Department and Emergency Assessment Unit. These areas deliver high intensity and varied case mix in acute settings. My role is to lead the nursing aspects whilst being a key member of the senior nursing team. This can include many features such as governance and patient safety, workforce planning, patient experience and operational oversight. Service improvement and transformation is also a key aspect of my role as well as being g an ambassador for my team and the service users.

I am looking forward to participating in this programme to gain a better insight into creating a caring culture, recognising the exploratory experience this programme provides. A phrase noted in the drop in session resonated with me and it was that this programme allows the prospect to ‘reconnect with the set of nursing’. I have now been in a management role for some years and as time goes on feel I move further away from this aspect. Renewing this would restore not just my personal motivations but provide me with a focus that I could share with others.
